Many athletes are starting to use cold therapy for recovery because it helps reduce inflammation and lack of motivation because once you hit that cold water you’re AWAKE!
In addition to Wim Hof‘s breathing technique I have been following his cold therapy protocol and it has changed my life. Living in Rochester New York I wanted to make sure I was no longer suffering from the cold but thriving in it. Cold therapy is when you expose yourself to cold for up to 1-3 min at a time. Most people have to work up to that but the best and easiest way to start is with cold showers (end cold last 15 seconds and work your way up to 30 second or even a minute). Once cold showers are mastered you will be on your way to handling the cold like you never thought before! If you want to take it up a notch you can try a cold dip in a creek, lake, ocean or even Ice Barrel made specifically for ice baths.
Many athletes are starting to use cold therapy for recovery because it helps reduce inflammation and lack of motivation because once you hit that cold water you’re AWAKE! Cold therapy also helps increase brown fat production which is rich in ATP (stored energy) and helpful at burning calories through thermogenesis (when your body warms back up). For more information I highly recommend reading Wim Hof‘s book or checking out his YouTube channel and learning more about his story and how he uses his mind to control has internal body temperature and strengthen his immune system.
I know this sounds extremely overwhelming or unlikely for some to want to try cold showers but I guarantee after the first week you will start feel amazing! Who’s ready to feel more alive & increase their energy? I hope to hear back from any of you who decide to give this a try. You are incredible… Don’t ever forget that!
